About the Rotary organisation

Rotary is an international service organisation of professional men and women. Rotarians belong to their chosen club and each club is a member of Rotary International, the organisation that administers Rotary programs around the world. They are united to:

> provide humanitarian service

> promote high ethical standards

> encourage peace and goodwill

The first service club in the world, Rotary began in Chicago in 1905. Its International headquarters are in the United States but it is active in almost every country, with around 31,000 clubs worldwide.

Rotary and the United Nations have a long history of working together and appoints representatives each year to UN bodies, including the Economic and Social Council.

Each year a Rotary International President is appointed for a one-year term.

This year the RI President is Ron Burton, from the United States.
